What you’ll do:

The Personal Support Worker (PSW) is responsible for providing direct care and support to residents of long-term healthcare facilities. The PSW works under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or Registered Practical Nurse and is responsible for providing personal care, supporting activities of daily living, and promoting the well-being of residents.

The PSW must be able to work independently and as part of a team. They must be able to communicate effectively with residents, families, and other members of the healthcare team. The PSW must be able to provide physical and emotional support to residents. They must be able to safely lift and transfer residents.

The PSW must have a positive attitude, be respectful, and be committed to providing quality care.

Who you are:

Minimum requirements

  • Any of the following:

    • PSW Program Certificate or Diploma

      • appropriate standards established by the Ministry of Training, Colleges, and Universities, the National Association of Career Colleges, or the Ontario Community Support Association.

    • A person who is enrolled in an educational program for registered nurses (RN) or registered practical nurses (RPN)

      • Who, in the opinion of the Director of Care, has adequate skills and knowledge to perform the duties of a personal support worker.

    • International educated nurses that can provide proof of graduation from an accredited nursing program.

  • Ability to work individually and as part of a team and prioritize tasks in order of urgency

  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and good comprehension skills

Bonus qualifications

  • Previous similar experience in long-term care an asset, with comprehensive knowledge of duties
